The 1200-Grit Difference

A flawless chrome finish is only as good as the surface beneath it. Every imperfection, scratch, and texture transfers directly to the final mirror. That's why we require all substrates be prepped to 1200-grit minimum before chrome application.

Our prep standard isn't arbitrary—it's the threshold where surface imperfections become optically invisible under a mirror chrome finish. Below 1200-grit, you'll see it. It's that simple.

220 Initial shaping & defect removal. Aggressive stock removal.
400 Refining shape. Removing 220 scratches.
600 Smoothing surface. Primer-ready for conventional paint.
800 Fine finishing. High-gloss paint ready.
1000 Very fine. Approaching chrome-ready.
1200 NYCHROMEART Standard. Optical mirror chrome ready.
